It is a little like polishing your factory aluminum rims to a mirror finish...they look soectacular for a few weeks or months but since you polished away the protective (albeit oxidized) protective coating, oxidation quickly sets in.
The auto parts stores are selling mostly deficient headlight restoration kits (no UV coating) and we cannot rely on their transient work force to educate us not to buy what they sell...
Am unsure what are most durable options..except that the OEM coating lasted 15 years.
Can anyone provide recommendations by brand or whether spray coat (aeresol can or spray gun) or cloth/squeegee application?
What does the OEM headlamp supplier to Lexus use??
Sylvania is mentioned because their kit is do-it-yourself, provides quality results and is readily available and affordable,
Their UV coating has proven quite durable...

I've had excellent results with:

No kits... just hand/wet sanding through the different grits, wiping with alcohol then putting a few coats down. You could go even further with color sanding but IMO it looks just fine if you spray it right.
