I figured you’d be the best person to ask this since you are probably the leading authority in LS400 ecus and Lexus ecus. I pulled the ecu in my 96 and it’s a 89661-50224, which from my research is a 95 ecu, I’ve heard they’re pretty interchangeable but could this be causing my issues? I think the person who worked on it put the wrong ecu in, I just don’t get how the car is still operating.

There's a TSB. It says that 89661-50224 is used replacing 89661-50220 (factory installation 10/1994-02/1995) / 89661-50221 (factory installation 02/1995-08/1995) as a countermeasure for the engine halt problem at certain conditions. So you don't need to worry. But you need to worry about those electrolytic capacitors if not replaced.
okay, I was just worried that the mechanics that worked on it replaced it with the wrong ecu, I didn’t realize that they didn’t really know what they were doing. They said they worked on the ecu and it looks new so I wanted to make sure they didn’t mess up. What ecus could I replace it with if I was to buy one refurbished? I’ve been looking at a 89661-50303 since they’re the ones for 96s but now I’m not sure.
it’s out family car so I’m just trying to get it roadworthy
