1994 LS400.....Harmonic balancer is wobbly, squeaking
Today I found out that my harmonic balancer needs replaced. Over the past couple days I have been hearing a squeaking noise and I looked under the hood and it was the harmonic balancer wobbling as the belt was running. My mechanic recently replaced the belt tensioner and belt, so my question is.... is this part something I can get aftermarket or do I need to get original? Also is my mechanic messing up my car.?...lol
Unless they are now making them in china, you can't get them aftermarket. Normal old car problem they can and do degrade and wear out. Why would you think changing the belt or tensioner would cause it? There are places that can rebuild them.

Junk yard? And the condition will be related to the miles on the junker. With a junk yard one it maybe lots of work for a month of driving till you got to do it again.

lol.....I hear that!.....I hate hunting through junkyards! but I'll do it if needed
it is highly possible that during the tensioner and belt replacement that the crank pulley was compromised at the rubber joint if not carefully handled. first thing's first, check to see if the crank bolt is tight. it could be as simple as that.

check Timmys post out and at any rate, get the old one off before it flys off and ruins fan, radiator and any thing else it can hit.. then that 89$ autozone will look cheap...
