Default 95 ls400 odometer issues

I've got a 95 ls400 that's riddled with problems, one of which is the odometer is not lit up and hasn't worked since I bought the car a year ago. I'm assuming the lights are burned out but I'm not really sure. I can't seem to find any replacement parts or tutorials on this subject. Can anyone help?

if the entire cluster is unlit, it could be the very common ECU leaking capacitors.

Are you sure?
The back light is controlled by the independent drive circuit built in the cluster unit and is not related to ECU capacitors.
Of course it's a good idea to replace those capacitors for the better engine running if those are still the original ones.

Did you watch the video Yamae? I don't think he used the right kind of capacitors for his replacement.

Yes, I watched it. You are right, jaaa. He used tantalum capacitors that aren't quite OK for those regulator circuits. Those often cause the phase rotation up to the radio frequency and risk the error amplifiers to oscillate. Also tantalum capacitors are prone to cause the fire risk if the circuit is not designed to use it as is explained here.

We also have to be careful for those who only know the surface of the problem and suggest other people the wrong method. You might be misled by them. I suggest you to ask a real professional if you aren't familiar to the problem or you just study more to fix the problem.

My apologies, Yamae. I thought jerryriff's odometer issue might have been similar to the issue in the video I shared.

Save yourself the headache and countless hours send it to tanin auto, do a search on here. It's very reasonable and quick turn around.

That's a great idea! I've posted a link to their gauge cluster repair services offered below.

there are individual lights out on the cluster, I'm just not sure of what I should get as far as replacement lights go.
