99 ls400 dash light BRAKE WEAR
I know what it is for, but I have never seen it before now, SO I am wondering if it means more than to replace the pads? any one have any other info on this??
I replaced front pads at 167k, and it now has 207k+ so it has 40k on them.. sounds normal to me.. any comment?
I replaced rotors also at 167k, but feel only smoothness now when I stop.
comments? thoughts?

I agree with anesthesia.
Also, be careful if you get Centric pads. I just did my rears and the wear sensor didn't fit into the bracket on the pads without a little modification. (I had to hone out the bracket a little.)

There is a brake pad sensor at one of the front wheels and a second one at one of the rear wheels - I don't remember which side they are on. Front pads on my 2000 LS400 lasted over 70,000 miles. Maybe it is your rear pads that have triggered the warning. Rear pads last far long than front pads as I'm sure you know with your auto repair business background.

my BRAKE WEAR light actually just came on for the first time since i've had the car for the past 5 or so years, good timing with this billy. for anyone who wants the oem pads, it's Akebono ACT665 and ACT613 for the front and rear brakes respectively. it's been over 2 years and about 40,000 miles since i've replaced them so i guess this shouldn't be a surprise.

Sometimes it could just be the pad wear sensor. Something could've hit the wire or possibly a wire might have come undone.
My front right wear sensor was not replaced when the previous owner did the brake pads and rotors so I knew those weren't worn out in just 10k miles.
40k miles seems low, especially since you don't drive the car aggressively....right? They should last at least 70-80k. I did durability brake testing for Toyota and a Camry for instance gets an estimated 80k miles on an accelerated suburban traffic 20k mile wear tests.

Losiracer2, I am thinking it is the REAR brake pad sensor, since I have no record of them ever being replaced and at 207k it is possible..
my fronts should still be ok... back in 2015 when Jon was working on my LS he said they still looked new..
Happy New Year, guys... have a safe one. !!

I know on the 430 model the brake sensors are both on the passenger side. Not sure if they copied the 400 design or started over.
I did buy some drop in replacement sensors off ebay for about $15 each and they worked perfect. Just plug them in and slide them in. We're not taking high tech here on these sensors.
Happy New Year Billy...
Here's a link for the front ($6): http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Front-Br...9X4M32&vxp=mtr
and the rear ($14): http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Rear-Bra...5Xz5AE&vxp=mtr
