I'm strongly considering the acquisition of a used LS-400. I haven't decided whether to go for a series-1 (is that up to 1993 or 1994?), or something somewhat newer (let's say 1998). Of course, there will probably be more maintenance issues with the older car, but this may be offset by the lower purchase price. I've heard very good things about the longevity of the series-1 cars, which is why I'm considering a 10-year-old car at all. If you can provide any insights into that particular decision, I would appreciate it.

So once I've decided to go for older or newer, is there a standard checklist of common issues for the LS-400? Although this list would probably include many items pertinent to all/most cars, I suspect that there are some quirks particular to the LS-400. These problems might be common reasons for the car being sold, and I don't want to get saddled with the headache. Are there any places here on this forum or anywhere on the web that would help me out? I've already checked sources like Consumer Reports, which was helpful, but much of that information was very generic.
