Assuming 8-10,000 miles per year I could reasonably expect to get 6-10 years out of this repair. Needless to say TB/WP in 30-40K miles so who knows. All I know is we have a solid, reliable LS for several more years which is some piece of mind.
This $800 inckudes labor?

I paid $450 w/tax for new OEM pump... (I installed)

Postings on this forum suggest aftermarket P.S. pumps (rebuilt) routinely leak in short order... moreover, the rebuilders never tell you what parts replaced or whether factory components...

Denso rebuilt OEM altenators from Rock Auto are less than aftermarket...and use Denso components...

The 130A alternator would have been worth doing..

Just curious..was the mechanic in a hurry to get you in and out?

Were they advocating aftermarket or emphasizing they would not work on your car using your OEM purchased Lexus parts?

The $800 included parts and labor installed. The mechanic was not in a hurry, I was eager to get my daughter her car back, makes life easier on all of us!. I made the call on the parts, OE parts being double. I have read the posts as well but didn't have the extra $750 unfortunately. Hopefully things will hold a bit!

The only reason I think that may interfere with a trouble free installation would be a plastic cover or wire loom that would not bolt back up right with another bolt/stud protruding from the engine block.

Lexus flange nut (P.N. 90080-17242 and special double-ended flage head bolt (P.N. 90109-08298) for mounting 3rd mounting ear on130A alternator (from 2001-2003 LS430 ) to LS400

YODA I'm seriously considering this mod. Sorry if I initially came off as a critic but I had to be sure. I recently replaced my PS pump, original with 197,XXX miles, with a new Lexus pump. The old pump was dumping so much fluid I could literally smell it! That said I'm not confident my alternator will have a long and prosperous life after being showered with ATF. I feel very lucky it's still doing it's job. I have tested voltage at the battery with a multimeter and everything is within range but I'd rather just replace it than worry about it.

Based on these pics I've pulled from the interwebs it appears the plastic timing covers are not an issue at all. I'll change my oil in a day or so and I can take a closer look when I do...

100A alternator Aluminum housing covers the laminations, while the 130A altermator front and rear housing shells "clamp" onto visible laminations (no housing covering laminations-better cooling? and lighter weight ) with 4 spindly bolts.

Apparently the front housing is stabilized via the third mounting ear bolt.

2001-2003 LS430 Denso 130A alternator on Left (Litens clutch pulley installed) and 1999 LS400 Denso 100A alternator on right.

Side view of LS400 and LS430 alternator. LS430 alternator front and rear housings clamp onto laminations, instead of each other... The front shell may shift without the third ear mounting bolt for stabilization.

Long time no post but my replacement (3 years ago) LS430 alt in my 400 died 100 miles from my home -- saw the tiny little battery light in the corner of the dash somehow and pulled off at the nearest exit, not knowing how long it was on. Mapped and drove to the nearest parts store to confirm no charging (12.02 volts at idle). They were nice and took my battery and charged it up fully while we sat on the curb out front. Ran the gauntlet and we made it home 100 miles at 75mph with 57% SOC left by the time we got home. I don't see any power steering fluid on the alt so I'm chalking this up to reman issues. At this point I don't really care the amp output as long as it outputs reliably . My daughter missed her soccer game because of this. Sad because this has always been our most reliable car .
