Catalytic Converter
Check engine light came on the day before my Lexus (2000 LS400) was scheduled to go to the dealership for an oil and spark plug change (and engine air filter)...
The service advisor scanned the code for FREE
Said it's an issue with the passenger side Catalytic Converter.
Advised me NOT to change it until/unless emissions tests are due (which it will be in November)...said it doesn't affect driving/engine significantly.
I checked with Lexus Parts...$1,100 part (including tax).
I checked OEM...$350 (these are Canadian Dollars).
I found a guy parting out his 1999 LS400 (from whom I bought a Nakamichi stereo...long story)...he said he will delete his own cat within 90 days or so and will sell me his for $50!
Called my mechanic (luxury car mechanic, not Lexus dealership)...said $300 parts (new OEM) and labour.
So here's the question:
Do I go with a new OEM part for ~$300 installed?
Or
Do I wait for the 1999 cat and have that installed for ~$180 less?
Thoughts?
Advice?

It could be a false alarm so keep on driving. If the same code comes up again then change it but go w/ new OEM or aftermarket instead of used one as these cats work hard so probably near the end of its service life being that old. If money is tight & you still want to go w/ the old OEM then any muffler shops can cut, swap & weld it in for about $20, not $130.

I'd also switch to top tier gas if you're not purchasing that already... could be your O2 sensor is a bit weak. I've found the cheaper gas from discount stations does not burn as clean as top tier... Shell, Texaco, chevron, valero.
Good luck and would not just sign up for a new converter.
