does it make sense to replace just bushings or whole front rod with bushings, and does it make a big difference on OEM versus factory parts

What year is your LS?
On 1998-2000 you can press the bushing out, mind you have to press it in clocked correctly.
or you can get the whole new arm

OEM parts make a big difference. I haven't yet found an aftermarket unit that lasts as long or rides as well.

If you're on a budget and have access to a press, do the bushings only, otherwise buy arms.

I bought a set of arms when I recently replaced mine. I kept the old arms and plan to buy a set of bushings to replace the old bushings. This will give me a set on standby all the time since Hess seem to be normal replacement parts.
