Mine was tough too. There's a clip that you push in (push the cable side, not the connector side). That swings up the clip and allows you to pull the connector apart.
I did it from the top, as I'd removed the covers, the battery and box, as well as the top radiator hose. It was then very easy to apply max leverage to the connector safely.
It's in there tight. Be sure to push it on tighter fist, so the clip has less tension on it, then pull it apart once the clip's unhooked.
