I recently upgraded the sound system in my '99 LS400 with the following components:
Front Speakers: Focal PS 130 V
Rear Speakers: Focal PC 130
Subwoofer: JL Audio CS110TG-TW3
Subwoofer Amplifier: Kenwood KAC-5206
Deck: DPX-592BT

It was all much easier than expected (the speakers are literally drop-in replacements) and now it is one of the best sounding car audio setups I have ever heard. The dynamat-ing was the most time consuming part, and it's hard to say if it was worth it.

The sub install under the rear deck is great, and it sounds much better than the stock subwoofer.

I'm still using the stock amplifier, and I don't think I need to replace it. The whole setup sounds great to ludicrous volumes as is.

nice setup. was it hard to mount the crossovers in the doors?

I was surprised at how little space there was in the front doors for the crossovers. They ended up fitting squeezed above the speaker box on both sides.
