The shift from park to drive is hesitant some times. When it does engage it jumps into gear. Is this going to be the shift solenoid? I need to purchase an OBD as well, which on is recommended for the 95 LS400?

Probably your motor mounts and transmission mounts. I would replace your transmission mount first since its about $40 at the dealer and should take you about 30 min or less to do once you've got it in the air on ramps or jackstands. The two front mounts run abou $300 and take a skilled person a few hours to replace.

You may have bad mounts but that wouldn't cause a delay in engagement of the transmission. What is the condition of the fluid with regards to color and smell. Use a white paper towel to see the color.

do you mean the shift from park to drive is hesitant or the mechanism (i.e. shifter) itself is hesitant. two different problems, but yes check your fluid. if the shifter is to blame, have you spilled anything into it lately?
