Default 96 LS400 lurch into drive or reverse.

This isn't your normal lurch thread.
All mounts except diff carrier bushings replaced.

Shift from P to D/R is pretty gentle in the morning from first startup. It's also gentle once car's fully warmed up at any time of the day. However...

After sitting parked at work for my 8 hour day, the shift from P to D or R results in a pretty strong lurch into gear, even when I let it settle down to 1000 rpm first.

What do you fine people think would be a primary suspect for this very specific behavior?

It does it even when I let the rpm settle to 1000 or so. And first thing in the morning it does NOT do it, though the rpm is 1200 or so.

Yes, it's had a few drain/fills followed by dropping the pan and replacing the strainer. No change of any sort, it's been this way since I got it.

It shifts very nicely most of the time, and only lurches after sitting for 8 hours during the day while I'm at work, never in the morning, and never after it's fully warmed up regardless when.

One thing that can cause harsh engagement can be a torque converter clutch that is partially engaged, and could be a leaky valve or something with solenoid sticking or even the clutch itself. But you'd expect those conditions every time, or with temperature changes.

Sounds like the line pressure is low. I'd simply check it first using an adapter and a pressure gauge as is shown below.
You need to have the pressure 60 psi or so when idling at D.

I thought low pressure would result in delayed shifts and falling out of/not going into gear. This is a instant, aggressive shift. It's like it's overly excited to do my bidding after extended sitting during the day.

Its still a good idea to check the line pressure like Yamae says.

I guess I'll grab the adapter and gauge and go from there.

For the record, pressure was fine.

A rebuilt ECU quelled the issue. Thanks for the replies, you fine people!
