Default '99 LS power tilt column not working, squeaky noise

Hey guys,

I am trying to fix a few things on my recently bought '99 LS400. And I'm now trying to figure out the power tilt en telescopic steering column and I would like to ask for some help with this.

The wheel is not moving at all an it is making a squeaky sound when I try to tilt it down or move it towards me.

I am lacking info to properly diagnose the problem. I have a workshop manual, but I can't find anything on the power column. I can't find wiring diagrams of this system. AND, I noticed that this system is different from the repair tutorials I already found on the webs.

So, any tips would be more then welcome.

Here's a video:

yep late 98 and 99's had the only built in FLAW in a Lexus ls400....... 2000 models it was corrected... yours didnt gwt the modification....
some one on here bought one and had it modified (polished-hardened) and made it workable.
the beas way is to buy a new modified one and install it
YOU MIGHT CAN GET AHOLD OF THE END AND TURN IT TIL IT IS OK FOR YOU.. IT IS ALREADY RUINED ANYWAY..
lot of work but 2000 from salvage yard??

Soo, what is actually the thing that is faulty on mine? The motors? As they make a weird squeak noise but don't actually do anything.
Or is the mechanism stuck and is it making that sound because of that?

The wheel position is fine for me atm so I haven't tried turning the spindle by hand because I wasn't actually expecting that to be giving problems.

But it isn't tilting away when they key gets removed because of it (obviously)

My 97 coach edition tilts "intermittently"... Usually in very short increments. Sometimes it won't return to it's memory position when started up, and I have to drive for a few mins before I can either slowly inch its way down over the course of a few mins, or sometimes it moves as much as I need it to in one stroke.

I saw the info on here about shimming out the drive gear.... Will that actually help my issue though?? It's not making any noises when it doesn't work - it just doesn't work
