Apparently this temp is normal?

I really appreciate your help, The thermostat is actuality new I got it done a month ago when I got the coolant flushed. They measured the temp and the internal sensor is measuring 192F, the thermo gun measured 195F. This is what is leading me to believe the sensor or the cluster is off. Its also a OEM 180 degree thermostat as well. I would think if the car started reaching up to the 200's it would cause the gauge to read at the temp mine is at.

A scan tool.that can read coolant temperature input might provide insight..
Another thing...
Many of us still.have original radiators...
After 20+ years there is going to be a fair amount of crud in the radiator fins that are reducing it's efficiency....removal, inspectionl and cleaning (or replacement DENSO.95+ are inexpensivet) are in order.
Also expired is the foam sealing strips with pressure sensitive adhesive that are used between radiator and shroud...which reduces efficiency.
Anyone source a durable replacement?

In the old days 180 degree was the norm. With emissions stuff the engines are run hotter to keep the emissions down so as high as 220 or so can be normal these days.
If the gauge in the car is not in the correct spot then its either the gauge or the sensor.

The temp gauge on my 96 LS has never worked, when measuring the coolant it's around 190f or so. It's never over heated and never worried me.
I bought a new Denso radiator for my 98 LS on Amazon for $69.00, thermostat has 82C stamped on it (179.6F)
