Default 1994 LS400 - no power at all but battery tests OK?

Hi all,

I just acquired a '94 LS400 that needs some help. The story (and this is all the information I have, no further details are available) is that it died on the freeway one day -- was running fine then just cut out. No unusual noises or anything, just stopped running. It then sat for a month, and intermittently someone would check on it and play the radio or whatever, but no starting or running. At some point, it stopped working at all, which was believed to be that the battery ran down. I have checked the battery, and attached a battery booster / tester to the car, and still nothing -- no power locks, no clicks, no lights, and obviously no starting. I checked the underhood fuse box, and all the fusible links look fine, including the 120A circuit.

My remote diagnosis guess was that the ECU went bad or the crank position sensor or something electrical, but I'd like to at least see a light on or something going in the car before I take apart the dash and pull the ECU.

Thanks for any suggestions y'all can provide ...!

Default Follow the cables

Forget the ECU, crank sensor, etc. You have a totally open circuit somewhere that is causing everything else to fail. Almost certain to be a bad connection for either engine ground, or +12v., or both. Use a volts/ohm meter to check every large cable at each point. Do it with a load on the system, like parking lights, so you are not reading phantom voltages. Where the continuity stops; there's your problem.

Same thing happened to my 93 a few years back. I found the positive cable to the alternator was very loose. I ended up changing the alternator at that time b/c of the steering fluid all over it so I don't know if the problem was the loose wire or the alternator itself but it started right up after that.
