Default 16 or 17 inch wheels for LS400?

I am in the process of ordering some new rims and tires for my 91 LS 400 from tirerack.com.. I have chosen Borbet Type E wheels and Continental extreme contact tires.. I am trying to decide on whether to go with 225/50/16 or 235/45/17. Any advice would be appreciated.. the cost difference is less than $200 for the larger wheel and tire.. I am concerned about ride quality, handling, fit issues, etc.

Thanks!!

I just changed my rims and tires, which I brought from tire rack. I bought 17''s and I don't feel any difference in the ride. I've heard that 18'' will cause a difference in the ride, and I think 16'' are too small. I bought mine from tire rack > milgia evo 5 with yoko avid h4 tires. Also make sure you check the rating of the tire or ask the rep from tire rack that you want smooth riding tires, because the rim and the tires makes the difference, not just the rims. I think the tires helped a lot, check the reviews on the tires it's on their website.
