I would pry the seal out like that, at least against the sealing surface. If you want to pry it out, pry on the outside. The cam is hard but if you scratch the sealing surface it will forever leak. The valve covers area alway's leaking on these things so I just choose to remove the valve covers, pop the front cam bearing cap and easily remove the seals that way.
