1991 ls400 running issues
So recently my car started to run rough and started misfiring out of the blue. I never did a tune up so I figured HEY! now is the time to.
I changed my plugs and wires and its doing the same thing.
I ran an engine code and it came up with
14 - Ignition no. 1 signal
I pulled each plug to see if the engine changed in idle speed
#4. #6 had no change at all
oh yea my car smells like a damn gas station.

First off never run your engine with any plug wires disconnected. You may have a bad injector .this will make you car smell like gas. I feel that the 4and 6 cylinders are balanced so you may run with both off and feel no problems or changes . Ihope you bought the same plugs that came with the car this is very important.

Since you've replaced the plugs and wires, but still have an apparent misfire on 2 and 6, I'd say replace the caps and rotors next. Don't keep driving the car. You'll lose a spendy catalytic convertor if you do.
If that doesn't solve the issue, you may be looking at an igniter assembly, which is fairly spendy at about $400 from the dealer (just for reference).
I didn't mention an ignition coil because you specified no change from 2 and 6 only. If 4 and 8 also made no difference I'd be suspecting a coil as well. Just to clear the air on that.

Yea you might as well replace the caps and rotors next. And if that doesnt fix it check the ignition coils. It could also be the ecu going bad. I had the same issue and mine turned out to be a coil.

Apparently (from a quick Google) that can also be triggered by bad cap/rotor/wire.
So I'm going to keep leaning on caps and rotors.
A far more annoying job than just wires and plugs, but not bad, just take your time.

Could be on to a winner. If you can afford to, I'd replace as many sensors as you can if you order the cam sensors. Being an older car, you'll fix one and another will go and you'll be experiencing more down time while you wait for parts to arrive.

Regarding "G" and "NE", the link below explains what are those.

Could be timing. Mine slipped a belt once but it only ran rough when it got to idle temp and didn't throw a code at all. It's an old one. I'd just replace the sensors and do a timing belt. It's probably due.
