Glad to Be Back!!!
Bought my 3rd LS this weekend. Found a one owner 2000 LS400 Platinum Edition w 79,000 miles in San Diego. All of the service work except for the timing belt done at Carlsbad Lexus. Couldn't get it back to Dallas fast enough! Have been driving a '07 LS460L for the past 4 years. The 460 is a great car to drive, but have had over $12,000 of extended warranty repairs, $2,000 not covered under warranty, has random issues with acceleration (or lack of) that Lexus can't fix, and you drive scared of the next thing that is going to break.
The LS400 has no heated/cooled seats, tiny cupholders, no nav, no bluetooth, no air suspension, no parking system, but there is just something about getting in a car that is built as well and is as reliable as the 400 that puts a huge smile on my face. I was a member of this forum 15 years ago when I owned a 91 LS400 and am glad to be back. Looking forward to being a part of the community again!

Welcome back and great job on an excellent find. Nice to have another great LS here in TX. You're story on your 460 is enlightening and strengthens my resolve not to purchase one.
Did you drive it back or have it shipped?
Pictures would be nice when you get a chance..

Nice job! its gotta be the top tier model of LS400s and yet, its not overly bloated with electronic gizmos as you mentioned. That's what I love about my 97, its just a solidly built car. Yeah, some of the interior components are wearing on mine after 21 years and 288k, but when powertrain components are considered, everything is still shifting very crisply, and responding to all my mechanical inputs wonderfully.
I'm pretty shocked that even with this mileage in the cold climate of Michigan I moved to from AZ, that every morning, it starts without fail, even in 5 degree temperatures it cranks over in less than 2-3 cranks.
This couldn't be a better daily driver. I'm happy you found another LS400 to move back into. But enough with my small talk, post some pics!

First and second gen bash third gen. Third gen bash 4th gen. Fourth gen are a lil snobbish at times but don't generally bash the other gens. Just my observations being on this board through the years. Congrats on the purchase and you don't need a reason to come back to such a great car and the most informative LS forum on this board.

Oh Man! That car is beautiful, what a find, Congratulations!
To me, these cars 90- 2000 are pure art. They truly have soul, they beat with the heart and spirit of every engineer, developer and builder of these pristine machines.I bought a 1999 with 73,200 last month here in Raleigh NC. Garaged and clean, not as clean,as yours, maybe that california weather?
Does the car have a story? Are you keeping ...... original?

Thanks for all of the great comments and questions! I found the car on AutoTrader. I wasn't actively looking, but a small dealer in the San Diego area had just listed the car the day I did a search for newly listed LS400's. I paid $6,800 for it, which I consider full retail, but when you get in it and it looks and feels the same way it did when costing $58,000, what I paid is insignificant. Flew to CA and drove it all the way home.
I don't know the story of the car except that it was one owner, religiously serviced at the local Lexus dealership and was traded for a new Lexus. Looking at the registration records it was only driven about 1,200 miles between 2014 and 2017.
My kids hate it, says it's an old car, but I've had it for 2 weeks now and actually look forward to getting behind the wheel and finding places to drive. Also, I bought one of those bluetooth/FM transmitter devices that plugs into your cigarette lighter. It arrived yesterday, so I now have bluetooth for audio and phone...made the car even better!
