Second owner (was going blind) put in a 1500 single port,Thats how he bought it in mid 60's,blown engine.I see you have the original battery tray, nice,LOL!Im third owner and had to pass his scrutiny I wouldnt muck it up before he would sell it to us.Think I paid like 6 grand in mid 90's for it.

Nice camper. I had an '81 - one of the last air-cooleds. On that one they had the battery under/behind the passenger seat.
On the hot LEDs, my understanding (from remodeling my house) is that yes, the LEDs are basically far more efficient because they don't generate all the heat energy that other lights do. So yes, LEDs are cooler. On the other hand, the electronics packaged in with the LEDs is very temperature sensitive, and the LED lifetime will be significantly shortened if it runs hot. So that is why there is a need for LED heat-sinks, etc.
So LEDs are cooler, but also more sensitive to heat.

Im not so sure,a while back the nephew put LED's in his jeep dash and told me they get HOT (with wife shaking her head yes) after my remarking about putting in nice cool LED's. Im thinking the output on the particular LED must matter? Or he got a hold of crappy bulbs, thats certainly possible. My motorcycle headlamp has a fan to cool the LED.
We need an LED expert to chime in,that sure would help.

The original bulb needs 21W/16W of power consumption each and totally 158W (21W X 6 + 16W X 2) is needed. I use home made LED units which can be replaced with original incandescent bulbs. The power consumption of mine is less than 1W each and the total about 7W. It is less than 5% of the original. I use high efficiency industrial red LED chips and those are still brighter than the incandescent bulbs which consume more than 20 times of electric power. The one I made is like this below and the second photo shows how those LED bulbs look when installed them to my car.

The photo below is when I was experimenting. It's the comparison between the LED bulbs and the original incandescent bulbs. Can you tell which side uses LED units?
