Default Backlighting shift position indicator plate

Installed the new shift position indicator plate and light bulb with color filter...

Much improved appearance and backlight illumination at night....however the backlighting is not optimal...the guide position indicator light pipe beneath the shifter plate is bleeding light.

With the console and wood trim plate removed , green light is pouring out underneath the shifter.

Toyota did not employ reflective material, so will determine if reflective foil with self adhesive to improve brightness.

# 35953 appears to be clear acrylic type material used as light pipe, but without reflective surface underneath

Shifter plate and ligjt bleed underneath.

I'd love to see a daylight picture of it installed in your console...

The night images were necessary to present the light leakage issue...

The console area remains in a state of disassembly while other projects are underway

I also have a 99LS 248K miles, I do put money into maintenance, but don't know where I stop with cosmetics. That shift plate is around $80, the car is worth $3000...
What do you guys think?

Can you post an image of your shifter plate?

It might look a bit better than your old one.

Backside of shifter selector plate with clear light pipe installed.... Notice bottom side of selector plate atop light pipe (here below it) is black. = poor reflectivity.

A close up of the bulb pocket area described...
Images of the back of shifter plate light pipe plate..
The bulb socket plug-in area recess is black...this is a poor reflecting surface so a small amount of outdoor rated foil with presssure sensitive adhesive will improve surface reflectivity from 10% to 75%..

Very beautiful revised shift indicator. I really want one for my 1998 ls400 but mine looks slightly different with additional opening for the factory curtain option switch. See the attached photo. Do you think I can make a new hole for the addition switch?

...and yours also has a Shift Lock Indicator button labeled so..

Base U.S. versions employ an unlabeled access plug with a thin slot in the middle...

Another member's original.shift plate depicting shift lock plug upper left hand corner...

Right hand drive?

What is destination Country?

As an aside, your shifter plate is in much better condition than many I have seen.

You may require a VIN # to determine P.N.

P.M. me if you wish addition research.

Thank you for your input YODAONE. I think you're right about the "shift lock override" button being different also. my lexus is 1998 LEXUS LS400 (UCF20L-AEAGKV) left hand drive, and I'm from Kuwait.

I believe that part number 35970-50100 W(AIR SUSPENSION) is more suited for my LS since it should have double openings which I can use for my curtain control. but still the shift lock override needs a solution.

LS400 interior parts are becoming very hard to come by, many are discontinued now.

Default Looking for indicator plate

If anyone is sitting on a new unused indicator shift plate they are willing to part with I would pay handsomely for it. My LS is a 98 with air suspension option. I’ve searched high and low with no luck to date!
