Default 1993 LS 400 Air suspension

Hi all, my question today is this - can a rear air shock work in the front if everything lines up?

Specifically can I use a 48080-50050 (rear) in place of a 48090-50020 (front)

Thanks

Anthony

will it work, perhaps but the length will be off even if you get it to bolt up.
it is unknown if the air line will line up.

Unfortunately, a rear air shock will not work in the front.

I figured as much Yamae, thanks for responding. I'm in the process of finding a used one (new ones are way to expensive for me!)

Maybe Yamae can help me here again. I am getting the SAME part numbers for BOTH the right hand and left hand front shock. The numbers are 48010-50010 (later model is 48010-50050). Can this be right?

I know the rear shocks have different part numbers between left and right sides.

The right hand and the left hand front air suspensions /shocks are different. See attached. As far as I know, the port to accept the air (air connector) is at a different position. Also the cap is different.

Ok Yamae, thank you once again. The reason I brought it up was because I found the opposite to that in the website http://www.*******.com/parts/p_J_199...EPQK_4803.html and also in a pdf parts list I downloaded.

However I have a defective right front shock here with me and I am about to remove the left one. If the air ports line up or not I will post what I find.

Another thing though, the shock in question is not raising the car on that side. I removed the air line and there is air coming from the line into the shock but I cannot hear or feel air leaking/coming out from the air bag itself yet the shock is not inflating.

The shock itself is actually like 25 years old but I'm still trying to determine if it is defective before I buy another one.

Can Yamae or anyone else give me some help with this? I don't have much experience dealing with all the problems that can happen to these air-shocks

Thanks

Ok, I have an update for anyone interested. I removed both front shocks and found - and this is important - they both carry the SAME part number which is 48010-50010. They are both identical and the air fittings line up properly. So we solved that mystery.

Now back to my problem. I noticed that the air to the front shocks was being supplied intermittently and sometimes not at all (the rear air supply was fine) so after some effort I eventually located the No 1 Height Control relay and knocked it a bit. Lo and behold the compressor started up and began supplying air to the front shocks. So as I had the left air line disconnected for testing purposes I quickly reconnected it and wow! the troublesome shock actually inflated!

My delight was short lived, however, as I soon heard the dreaded hiss from the air bag and that was that. So now I have two problems to correct, Besides getting my hands on a used front shock (left or right doesn't matter) it appears that I now also have to replace the No 1 (front) Height Control relay.

I will try to remember to post another update once everything is up and running.

This is why most people (including me) just change to regular shocks and springs when the first problem comes up with the air shocks. It's expensive to fix and every other part in the system has the same wear and tear on it.
But, I will admit, nothing compares to the ride on air.

Update. I managed to get a used left shock 48010-50010 and installed it. Suspension pumped up without me doing anything to the Height Control relay so it seems that was not at fault after all. I'm back on the road (for now) lol.

Any questions I'd be glad to try to answer.

Hi Yamae this is the website I was referring to in a previous post which came out with asterisks (www) *******.com/parts/q_J_1993_TOYOTA_CELSIOR_UCF11.html
