98 LS400 moonroof stuck
Help
Running into a problem today with my 98 LS400. The moonroof first closes and automatic reopens half way. Then I managed to close it. After I tried to tilt up, it won't come down anymore.
I checked the motor, switch board, they all seem fine. Open, close, tilt up will trigger the motor to run, but not tilt down? What could be the problem?
Is the motor bad?
The moonroof is now at a half closed position enough for the car to throw a code says "moonroof open".
I tries to use the switch when motor is attached with the cable, the moonroof seems moved a little bit but then went back to where it was -- half tilted up. Almost like is was jammed by something, but there was nothing on the way as I checked.

After battery disconnect, button holding, and all that (receiving the 3 clicks when trying any adjustment), I simply took off the cover for the interior lights, removed the 3 screws to see the motor, saw the motor bolt twitch a bit. whapped it with my wrench lightly and got it to open and close 2 times, tilt and regular... then went and got some spray lithium lubricant get up in there and (thankfully in the fully closed position) got nothing but those clicks again. Moral of the story: try hitting the motor assembly and if you get it to move, leave it closed and go shopping.
Or, like I did, just disconnect the tilt and open buttons then have fun being able to wash it again.
