1998 LS400 with navigation: head unit help!
Hi ClubLexus! I'm now an owner of a 1998 LS400 which is a huge jump for me coming from a 1990 BMW E30 . I love the car so far and it is very fun to drive. However, I am looking to install my subwoofer and possibly upgrade the other speakers later on as well. My dilemma is that my LS400 has the GPS navigation system, not the typical looking system, and the climate control buttons are on the same part of the unit that the LCD is on. The lower part looks like it could be taken out and replaced with a single din head unit, but I can't fully confirm this since I haven't been able to find anything on CL that answers my question. Also, some of the controls for audio are accessed through the touch screen.
All in all, I'm trying to figure out if I can install an aftermarket head unit or not, and if I can't, how would I go about installing a subwoofer with the stock setup? Do I haveto split wires going into a stock amplifier? Thank you!

Yes- I just removed my 99 LS400 Navingation System and replaced with a Kenwood Double Din System and added backup camera. It plays DVDs and CDs and they make a model to work with Apple Car Play and also a separate model that works with Android system.
To get your Climate to work, you need to find a Climate control system from a non-navigation LS400 (98-2000) and install ti above the Kenwood. I can give you the bloody details if you's like. I paid $50 for the non-navigation climate control system and there are many options available for the Sound system you choose.

Thank you for this! I have looked everywhere and there is very little info on this. My nav and audio don't work at all, but the ac does. Sounds like this is the cheapest fix for me.
