Default Wheel bearing noise

Hey everyone, just got new hubs and new bearings for the front of my 99 LS400.

my mechanic wrapped up the passenger side yesterday, torqued the nut on back of the hub (while off the car) to spec using a torque wrench(I helped).

as I drove home a loud bearing type noise started getting worse and worse. I brought it back to my mechanic and that nut had gotten loose!

I suppose where we went wrong is not torquing that nut to spec WHILE INSTALLED on the car ?

I just torqued the crap out of it with my impact until it didn't turn anymore and staked it. He probably forgot to stake it.

what is involved in staking it?

is it what you do to the nut on the back of the hub ? after torquing it ? because my mechanic did actually do that, but maybe improperly ?

yeah you either take a chisel or a screwdriver and put a dent in the nut after tightening where the slot is to secure it from moving/loosening.

It would be very obvious if it was not staked. And could have caused death if that wheel came off.

Anyone have a clue why my wheel hub nut would come loose? Now I have to replace the bearing again because it clearly got damaged.

watched my mechanic use his snap on torque wrench to torque it to spec, watched him stake It as well.

are we missing something here ?
