Default Car won't start until holding key in start position

I have to hold it sometimes for a few seconds.

No click sounds. The starter was replaced about 6 months ago.

Just replaced battery but didn't solve issue.

No codes except check vsc and O2 sensor.

What could the issue be? Fuel filter? Key loose?

Default

what year and mileage on the vehicle?

ignition is one culprit but also the neutral safety switch in the shifter is another. sometimes it gets stuck or debris/coffee/soda spill affect the switch under the shifter. if this isn't triggered the starter will not engage.
try this, when in ignition-2 position with the key, move the shifter to the neutral position after depressing the brake and see if the starter engages there.

other problem I see is that the starter is bad...unlikely but still a possibility if an aftermarket item was used.
