Default DIY full bumper and roof paint job (rattle can)

As a 20 year old car does the clearcoat has been fading so I did a rattlecan job, some of you will cringe at my work but here you go

, I’ll upload the roof when it’s done drying

That's the "after" picture of the bumper right? If so, nice job. It looks smooth. How did you do it? Many light coats? Also what paint did you use? My car is white and needs a paintjob for sure.

I did the bumper on a separate day, and yes it’s the after picture. What I did was I sanded it down, used a clay bar to smooth it out, and fill in gaps (can’t think of product name ) and then I used a spray pant attachment to do 4 light coats and then one slow paced coat, I would recommend taping off the chrome with tape, I decided f** it and just went over parts of it, but overall still looks good.

Interesting, thanks. How expensive is it? Might be a good idea to do your own paint job instead of paying for one.

for everything about 60 bucks, paint was the most at 35. Might need a few cans for whole car.

There are 2k spray cans available. That is a paint with a hardener, and would be the best way to go. I can't see how auto paint people that will poo a rustoleum paint job will not bat an eye at non hardener water base paint. I really don't get it. An alkyd enamel air dry with a urethane clear coat, in my book would be way better than water crap paint.

I’m not even sure what kind I got honestly.... I just wanted a factory match. But in the end it turned out better than it was

At least it's protected. Never believe anyone who tells you you can spray clear only or just cut and polish it. The base coat always needs to be redone when the clear fades like this.

What helps a clear coat last longer? Waxing it? Sadly it's too late for my car cause I have the same things going on. Mine is white however, an easier color to do... One of the fenders was painted very badly by someone else and you can't tell unless you pay attention but the shade is way off.

Anyone ever got a cheap Maaco paintjob? Is it really s***ty?

The white pearl is quite a complex color to match correctly. White cars generally hold up better in the sun. I bought a 1990 celsior from North queensland that's was outside and not started for over 2 years. Clear is fine but the bumpers are all cracked from the exposure

Had one,Mom had a car with one.Look pretty good for 2 years,then faded badly.Earl Shieb,I'll paint any car for 19.99! OK,Im old,LOL!

Nephew did old jeep in flat green rattle can camo, looks really nice, especially compared to beat to hell rusted white paint he covered.Doesnt wax it,but keeps it real clean.Looks nice. And gets a scratch, out comes the rattle can.

I did a mail jeep, red with black top.Actually looked pretty good.Rustoleum rattle can.
