does anyone know what this means? i cant find a definitive answer anywhere. just swapped a/c units but now im dealing with a battery drain and im wondering if the defroster light blinking has anything to do with it.

Do you mean that it is continuously blinking and does not stop?
The car is designed to blink it a few to several seconds when the defrost button is pushed after the reconnection of the battery. It will be stopped blinking after the flap motor completes the motion. If your car does not stop the blinking, there will be a possibility of the motor continuously running. Do you hear any motor sound under the dash? If so, the HVAC control unit may not be working right. I mean the feed back signal from the flap end is not processed by the unit or simply the signal is not coming into the unit.
Didn't you pull the connector too strong while you removed the unit and damaged the cable?
