Default Removing road tar from rocker panels

Seeking recommendations on best product for removing hardened tar splatter from rocker panels...that does not disrupt clear coat or paint.

There are chemicals called tar and bitumen removers. I would try tree sap remover first, not as harsh chemical.

I've used mineral spirits in the past, but have found that Goo Gone works well also. If it is really thick tar, you have to apply it over and over several times. Saturate a cloth (or paper towel) with either product and work into area and then wipe with a dry, clean cloth (or paper towel). When done, wash and wax the area because Mineral Spirits and/or Goo Gone will remove wax in the process so it has to be rewaxed. Waxing the area makes future removal of gunk easier.

if ordering onliine (and don't mind an awful smell), Carpro TRI-X.

Otherwise, most bug and tar removers from autozone will work fine. Just follow the directions, and rinse well after.

Default Baby oil to remove road tar

Baby oil is safe for skin and contains mineral oil...

Removed the Rocker Panels (for another project) and applied baby oil to the tar splattered areas with Q-Tips.

Viola....with a litle patience and elbow grease, the tar dissolves.

Avoid attempting to chip away at tar flecks, as this will.remove clear coat with tar specs.

WD40 will also work if the tar isn't too thick

I've tried a clay bar (and associated lubricant) on this and it works too, but the clay bar gets contaminated much faster.
Next is this baby oil method!

I've used goo gone in the past and was too aggressive!

no matter what is used to remove tar, a good coat of wax afterwards is recommended.

Goof Off is pretty harsh, but Goo Gone is plant based and works great on plastic without damaging it. It removes stickers really well also. The trick is to apply it with one paper towel or cloth and then wipe over it with a separate clean paper towel or cloth. When it comes to tar, it is labor intensive no matter what you use.
