can a 1996 ls400 ecu be used with a manual transmission or is this ecu too difficult/tempermental to work with a manual swap. the part number is 89661-50303. thanks.

since the engine only came with automatic, you will have to do some trickery regardless to get the engine to run properly. the auto trans does not have a separate TCU from the factory.
I'm no expert but I believe it's as simple as making the ECU think you are in park or neutral, via the shifter or the wiring.
are you doing a manual swap in an LS400? or in another car altogether?
