Default Code 13, hard start, stutter

So I keep getting this code 13 that pops up before I start it. Sometimes is starts hard and sometimes it stutters as it's starting. I'm looking at changing the cam sensors out ASAP. Will that fix this issue, or is there more I need to look at?

Wait, JonnyO78. You were mentioning that you had the code 12 before. But now you say 13. The code 13 is often caused by the unmatched phase between the signal G and NE caused by the stretched or skipped timing belt.

I'd check the timing before I attack the distributor.

Well I guess there's no avoiding it. Looks like I'll be pulling most of the front of this motor off. Wish me luck on the new place with the big garage!

It's primarily that the water pump was just changed and the belt is new. Well, maybe this won't be a complete PITA.

Seeing how you're gonna be changing the thermostat anyway, (other thread) you might as well pull the upper timing covers off and see if all the timing marks line up. It might have jumped a tooth.
Also, I had a code 13 on my 93 a while back which turned out being a tired coil. It wasn't completely gone but it was getting there.
Oh, good luck with the big garage.

Default Back to 12 and no start

Dammit. I had a hard start yesterday and stuttering at about 3k RPM. And now this morning I'm back to Code 12 and no start.

Looks like I'll be replacing the cam sensors as well as the thermostat, in addition to checking the timing position. I'm thinking the stuttering is fuel filter?

In other news I'm going to look at the house with a big garage tomorrow. Doesn't really help with my continued car troubles.

Well, it started up when I got home. Maybe the cold and moist weather is giving the cam sensors problems?

Regardless, I'm hoping to dig in tomorrow night and check the timing marks. Maybe I'll get "lucky" and it's just a skipped tooth. Because sensors aren't in the budget until the 20th. If then.

Ugh. My timing belt can't be very new because it has no timing marks on it. I located the timing marks on both TWs, but it's not all that helpful without lines on the belt. Looks like I'll have to pull the whole assembly and check it with the marks on the back of the plate. And here I was hoping it wouldn't be such a chore.

Since there are no marks on this belt, I'm going to go ahead and plan to change it ASAP. I'll just add it to my never ending list of poorly maintained things to fix and replace. I'll probably end up waiting until next month and having a garage to work in.
