Default radio plug and play

Does anyone know if the radio's can be switched between cars(without some kind of a security code?)? I pulled a 1995 radio out of the junk yard for $10 and wanted to see if the back lighting worked on it for my 1996 ls400. My radio works fine but has no back lighting. I guess I just want to know if it's plug and play with security concerns.

There is no security code on the 95-up LS400 ... only on the 90-94.

The back light bulbs can be replaced. Factory Radio Service in California charged $10 to replace them all in 2012 at the same time they installed an aux-in on the Nak head unit of the 2000 LS400 i used to have.

Probably you should had searched the Forum before you waste time and money.

The solder crack is a common problem among Pioneer radios and other products in those days. I'd say it's a design fault. Engineers have to consider the differences of thermal expansion rates carefully.

Yamae, I did a search a long time ago, but the post I came up with showed how to replace the LED's which I did at the time. Of course there was no joy! As usual, I should have just asked help from you at that time(unfortunately I didn't know you back then). I'll take it apart, and add an additional wire as you suggested. Once again, thanks.

The code is in the head unit. There is no communication with the rest of the car.
