Default Radio issue (98 LS400 w Nakamichi)

Having an issue with my radio.
1998 LS400 w Nakamichi system in it.
When i turn up the radio volume it crackles badly.
when its at a low volume it has no issues, happens when there is bass too.
Anyone else ever have an issue like this?
Wasn't sure if the factory amp is bad or something. Not really wanting to pull it out in the driveway when its 10 degrees out
Thoughts?

It's been a lot of years ago but I think I remember that in the days/weeks before the right channel of the Nak in the 2000 LS400 I had completely failed, there was quite a bit of static but I don't remember if the volume level made any different. The first time it happened, a company in Florida solved the problem by doing some resoldering in the head unit. The second time it happened a few years later, the Florida company no longer worked on Naks so I gave up and had a double DIN Kenwood head installed using the Nak amplifier. Somebody on this forum said he traced a similar problem to a bad connection in a ribbon cable inside the head unit but I wasn't able to find the thread where he said it.

If you want to determine if the problem is in the Nak or the head unit, find another 98-00 LS400 that has a working Nakamichi system and test your amp in his car. It is pretty easy to remove your Nak amp without removing the passenger seat although I needed a helper when I reinstalled mine. You can lay your Nak amp on the floor in the back of the front passenger seat in the other LS400 to test it. Unplug the connectors from the Nak under the passenger seat and plug the connectors into your amp. The cables are plenty long enough. I've done this test and it was pretty easy to do.
