New 97 LS400, airbag question
I'm picking up a 97 LS400, 200k on the odo, but I know the current owner. All major and minor service is up to date, including t-belt, rad, hoses, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff. He's a Toyota/Lexus nut (we're both in a land cruiser club) and I've seen him rebuild motors/trans from his cars, so I trust this vehicle. I'm buying his Lexus as a first car for my 16 yo daughter. About to do an internet search but wondering if anyone knows if the airbags were recalled (i.e., Takata, etc.). Thank you and look forward to learning more about this car.

no recalls of that nature on the LS400. this was way before the takata fiasco (which will probably bankrupt takata in the end).
there may have been small squeaks and squabbles in the past which is most likely not covered any longer beyond the usual 5 year/100k mile warranty.
in any case, like the land cruiser, these Toyotas are built TOUGH, and as you can see last a lifetime (million mile lexus is a 96, same gen as your potential vehicle)!
though it would make a great first car, it has the possibility to spoil your daughter! with exception of the dated stereo.
the reliability is important and this car (if well kept) has it.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, just picked up the car last night. Reminds me of my 93 Acura Legend. Basically a big, plush, luxurious sedan. I'm going to enjoy baselining it and tinkering. May have to toss that Nakamichi stereo. It plays, but screen is messed up. Speakers sound blown too.
