1998 - 2000 LS400 uses 8 C.O.P. ignitors

After 20+ years of underhood heat, the engine wiring harness connector shells that connect to the igniters are brittle...and literally crumble when handled.

The main locking tabs break when disconnecting connectors from coils for spark plug or valve cover gasket changes, etc.

However, engine harness wiring and connector contacts are very durable and can be reused without resorting to slice and dice "pigtails" , by purchasing connector shells from Lexus.

I replaced all 8 of mine in one hour.

Close up of connector shell with white insert removed and the facing side of the plastic contact holder removed (it crumbles away quite easily) to illustrate the plastic locking lances. Using the pick, simply and gently insert point between the plastic lance and winglets of contacts. The plastic lances crumble or break away...thus allowing easy extractionl of wire and contact pin.

Extract and insert one contact at a time to maintain proper wiring order. The contact pins are indexxed, so only go in one way. A slight clicking noise is heard when fully inserted and locked into connector shell.

Connector shell.P.N. 90980-11150. (Same as airflow meter) The white insert is extended permitting insertion of contacts. After contacts are fully inserted, then push white insert into connector shell, not before.
