Default How to access subwoofer 2000

How would you access the rear sub? Do you remove the trunk liner or what?

The trunk liner once removed will provide access to the gas tank. You can see the sub from within the trunk with liner removed or looking up into the big hole the liner has to allow the air pressure to hit the trunk. To remove the sub you will have to remove the rear deck cover. To do that you will need to first remove the rear seat completely, the side rear pillar covers and then you'll have access to the rear deck cover to remove. Make sure to unplug the rear brake light plug before pulling the deck cover off. Once off you can get to the 4 bolts holding the woofer in.

Just to see the woofer you can remove the rear sub cloth cover. It pulls off. With it off you cant remove the sub though but you can at least inspect it.

So after taking the cover off I found that this had. Come off the sub, when I play my music now it’s not crackiling and making weird noises, maybe this coming off was just interfering with it.

you need to unbolt the back of the rear seats (pretty easy, only a few to undo) in order to access that panel the woofer sits in

i don't remember if i needed to unplug the brake light but the seat back is a must

That's the dust cap for the subwoofer. It was moving around, causing the noise. You should reinstall it, because it prevents dust and other debris from getting into the voice coil and helps with cooling the speaker.

Here's a fair how-to video:

Make sure you center the cap properly and don't put too much glue. Improper installation could have an affect on the sound.

For those of you that are planning to discard the stock sub to add another sub w/ a box & an amp in the trunk then instead of removing the rear seat & all that, just snip it off, pull it out from the top then leave the opening w/ the cover back on. This will let more bass into your cabin via the opening. I went w/ a JL 12W3v2 & JL500 mono-amp setup & it sounds great.

This is exactly what I did and I have a custom made 15" sub in the trunk. The opening in the rear deck allows a greater amount of SQ that would normally be missed within a sealed trunk. Though I did remove the rear seat and everything to remove the sub. Super easy though.
