Ouch! Next time .... you'll read my attempt to warn you ahead of time.
(take heart! mid '90s BMWs forgot to stick a drain hole in their DME box for the engine control module. Dead BMWs in car washes across the land!)

I doubt it. Its been a trend for a long time now to cover motors with plastic. If anything becomes the norm then everyone will expect it. Not to mention people look under the hood, scratch their head and take it to a shop. I mean if you can see the parts you might be inclined to work on it yourself. I think its just a way to make the engine bays look not only cleaner but deter less mechanically inclined people away from delving into the engine themselves.

My point was that with the original they really went that extra mile, no need to continue it after that motor proved what a beast it was.
I seriously want to do the champagne thing with my 430.

I've spent a boat load of time fixing my grandsons 2001 325xi the last four years. I've put in two fuel pumps(actually three), an intake runner gasket, new coolant plastic housing/hose parts, new spark plugs and valve cover gasket, a bad oxygen sensor, total door and am currently looking for a new front quarter panel. A bmw with 200k+ miles just plain has issues. Only thing I've done to my 2001 BMW z3 is wholesale the coolant system when it hit 12 years old. Of course it only has 57k miles and sits as a hanger queen in my garage.

Way to promote a sense of unity here! It's a fact that BMWs are unreliable cars, hate to break it to ya. Every "Bimmer guy" I know spends thousands a year on repairs, and then they justify it which is the most hilarious part, just that is "part of having a BMW". A buddy of mine sets aside like $500 a month for repairs for his old 3 series, it's the funniest thing ever. He must put 3-4 grand a year into a car worth maybe $750 trade in value. He's always like "it's a classic, like your car." I'm like "bro, yeah, but if my 2004 LS became a money pit it would be gone in 2 seconds." I haven't seen a 2004 7 series in a long, long time, and the last one I did see was blowing blue smoke, motor was toast.

Poor Rocky, must be having a bad day. I loved my early BMWs. Great cars! And reliable! Then, I saw the writing on the wall, the Chris Bangle disaster and bloated heavy overly complicatedicatedly idiocy and the destruction of the finest instrumentation ever, I can see why Rocky is in a bad mood. You know why I am in a good mood? Cuz I jumped just in time to a car with better intrinsic quality and a far better all aluminum V8 engine tour-de force.
Poor Rocky. Probably thinks we Lexus geezers don't know anything about BMWs ... I loved mine! But I knew when to divorce!
That is why I am in a good mood and I am not in debt! Rocky!
