Default Shifter Hard to Shift From Drive Back Into Park

I have a 97 Lexus LS400 which I have owned since it was a year old. Recently, I've noticed the shifter is hard to shift from Drive back into Park. I think it may need some lube. Just wondering if anyone has also experience the same issue. Thanks.

Your shifter to transmission rod uses a series of rubber bushings that wear out...

The shifter mechanism internals require lubrication...and after 20+ years the lubricant is expired.

Consider replacing your shift indicator plate while servicing.

I had an 89 Landcruiser with shift lever problems, and replacing/lubricating the linkage bushings solved everything.

I was going to replace my shift indicator plate last year as it has started to de-laminate (bubbling). I have called a few dealers but was told Toyota no longer make them.
