Default How Quiet Compared to Modern Cars?

Can someone give me an idea how quiet the interior is on a later LS400 (98-00) are compared to something like a 2010+ Camry and the current Camry?

I know these cars were lauded for their quiet interiors at the time, but I just wanted to know how they stack up to the average modern car.

while my LS was getting worked on I was driving my girlfriends 2016 Camry and honestly after a week of driving I think the LS is more quiet at highway speeds but if your cruising in the City it’s pretty close between the two.

I would say my 98 400 is about as quiet as any modern entry to mid level vehicle, both at idle and at highway speed. But drives and shifts up there with the best of them.

My 430 is noticeably quieter, however. I would put my 430 up against almost anything besides maybe the newer luxury flagships in terms of wind noise and idle decibel level.

thanks that’s really helpful because I’m actually considering both late model LS 400s and LS 430s

as long as the weatherstripping is all in good order the 400 is definitely as quiet at speed if not quieter than a brand new camry and definitely corolla

driving along in general is quieter since the engine doesn't ever really need to rev past 1500 or so, whereas doing the same maneuver in a rav4 or something will be revving at least twice as high to accomplish the same level of acceleration

road and tire noise is also still less in the LS, and in general i still feel more isolated in my car than all the others i've driven

It totally depends on how well they've been cared for. Weatherstripping and seals are broken down, sound deadening in panels and such is broken down and deteriorated, wind noise getting in places where it didn't originally.

Being fortunate enough to have an LS400 new back in the day, at the time it was shockingly quiet, but modern cars are MUCH quieter than they used to be and the LS (or any other high end car) doesn't stand out the way it used to, despite being quieter its not an order of magnitude quieter than a car like a Camry or Avalon.

my 10 years younger self would call my current self crazy, but current me is more jealous that you got to drive (quite extensively from your descriptions lol) a brand new 1999 LS 400 when it was brand new than 21 year old me getting to drivemy dad's brand new 2014 E63 S

my dad also knows me too well to let me completely loose in a 600 hp car whenever i felt like it lol... but he was still down to take the car to pocono raceway and drives it with a somewhat heavy foot himself, also if he's gonna be in the car too he pretty much has no problem with me letting myself into the drivers seat whenever... but yea he very much kept a close watch on those keys haha

when he got his used 2005 E55 back in 2013 (after he got bit by the "i want a massive engine in my car" bug immediately following my pushing him to test drive one) things were even worse since he has it in his head that using something as absolutely little as possible is how to make it last the longest

Yeah he was incredibly generous with it, I drove it a ton, took it on trips, etc. I don’t know if I will be able to be as generous when my kids can drive LOL

well if you're talking in regard to your LS, i'd totally understand since you specifically sought out that car and it's no longer in production... but if we're talking about whatever minivan you might have at that point (or whatever the current lease is) then i don't think there's as much cause for concern lol

exactly, even more reason to be over protective of it since there's no longer a direct replacement
