New ls400 need oil recommendations
First post- new to club lexus...
So I just purchased a new 1996 Lexus LS400 with 113,000 miles. the car is in good clean condition and was serviced regularly however I noticed the oil could be changed. I am considering using full synthetic mobile1 5 W- 30 oil but I'm not exactly sure what the previous owner had used. would I be doing any harm by adding full synthetic on an older vehicle or should I use conventional oil in at this point? Should I go heavier possibly 10 -W 30?

Welcome. Synthetic oil is fine, but stick with 5W30.

all you will get here are a bunch of "opinions" , and that is ok, your main question was will you hurt it by changing types: NO! just change it to keep it clean, it dont wear out!!
use what you want, follow your manual... they knew what to write.. and NO I have not read the "book" from Yah.......... but I owned 3 Gulf and 2 Texaco stations before I opened my Automotive shop (30 years)... now at 85, I just pass along common sense... when I can..

Except for Mercedes, mostly U.S. made vehicles.
Checking oil was part of the service...many needed oil...often a quart.
My LS400 uses no oil...except when I wipe the rag to check it.
