Default Radiator fan conversion

Now that most of the mechanical fixes are almost done..I was thinking..is an electric fan conversion worth it?

99 ls

You need to list your car like folks do so we remember what it is.

Following Toyota's lead, the LS430.uses electric fans.

What I don't like is (if I am correct on this) is the electric fans "pull" the air instead of pushing the air through the radiator.

Anyone try sucking out a lit match? It doesn't work too well...thats why your vacuum cleaner must go screaming high RPMs to work.

From an airflow.perspective, blowing out the match is quite easy...

However, the current configuration provides airflow over the block and exhaust manifolds..

The engine bears the load of constantly spinning, accelerating and decelerating a heavy fan clutch and airflow generation.

Electric fan(s) would save H.P. and decrease fuel.consumption and emissions.

A 130A alternator would be required (more power under the curve)

Have seen a few kits, but they appear low budget splice and dice without adequate temperature sensing.

Plug and play would be big.

Would free up.about 10.HP and less wear on fan bracket bearing...

Less noise on start up

Anyone suggest an engineered solution?

Yup the mpg and hp increase would be nice.

Which 130a alternator do you suggest?

2001 -2003 LS430 alternator;

See:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...r-upgrade.html

Should be plug and play on 1995-2000 LS400.

1990 - 1994 LS400 will.require different wiring harness side connector shell. Not sure if connector contacts are the same...Check with Lexus

I do need a new one. No danger of overcharging condition with this one?

you know the 430 in a sense makes less power than the 400 since its bigger engine makes the same figure... and as we know from the recent JBrady post the 400 outperforms the 430 anyway so idk how much of a difference you expect this to make

also there's an additional electric fan in front of the radiator for when you're going slowly and using the A/C on a hot day so all of the cooling needs are already met

i'm still curious to see what happens if you do decide to do this lol

Didn't someone point out, YAMAE maybe, that while it is a direct swap the pulley diameter is different..?

Swap the pulley from the old one?

I don't even know if it matters, I just remember someone pointing it out.
Pulley diameter dictates RPM. Changing the RPM changes the output of the alternator so I wouldn't recommend swapping pulleyes...
