2000 LS 180K. I previously bought the car and my code reader showed no codes so this was kind of a shock, I’ve put 3K miles on the car averaging around 22-24 MPG but I’m still get po131 codes, any suggestions on what to replace just so the code will go away? It says bank 2 is the problem. As you can see in the pic I’m getting easily over 400 miles a tank but the light is more of a mental annoyance to me😬
If its bank 2,sensor 1 its on the passenger side on manifold before the cat converter. I got it for 45 dollars from walmart.Simple job.Probably the easiest one on the car.
If it is Bank 2 ,sensor 1 is O2 sensor passenger side on manifold before cat.Use the DENSO Oxygen Sensor, #234-4169,$45 dollars from walmart online.
For me this was a 2/10 scale of a job.Hardest part was getting floor jack and a safety stand out of garage. My sensor unclipping was a breeze with a tiny screwdriver and my 7/8 closed end wrench fit over the connector and slid down wires right to sensor.Came out with just normal wrench force.I have a clean no rust car so damn did I get lucky all around.
As always, guru's correct me if Im wrong. Its very late and was a loooong day,in fact just verify if im right, dont want to post bad answer....
That sounds like it.Study the new sensor clip and you will understand how you pry away the holding clip with a tiny screwdriver on pigtail.Dont forget to lightly apply the included copper anti seize to the threads, just takes a little.Dont get any on sensor and dont drop it,those are major Bozo No-No's per the literature.
If you get a PO420 after that replacement, low cat threshold, then reset it and then get on the freeway and run about 60 mph light load for about 10 minutes, again per the literature. I then got on mtn road and drove it uphill spiritedly home. That will heat the cat and set the cat monitor code as complete. That just happened to me after replacing it.
Is that after replacing top sensor passenger side? I got that, erased it and did the 10 minutes light load at 60 mph,and it set the cat monitor readiness codes as set, never to be seen again.
Or is this in place of bank 2,sensor 1 ?
Im going with replace both sensors before getting a new cat.Big upside in that, and low downside because sensors are old anyhow. If its fixed, you are good to go,if not then a new converter.
Lets see what better mechanics than I am say.....
Oh,oh,get on ebay and get a 22 dollars code scanner that resets codes,I got this one, works well.
