Hello all, I have a 00 platinum so I have the aluminum platinum wheel package, my question is could I make these chrome? I like the design but the aluminum is just in such bad shape and looks as if it’s peeling , has anyone done this to there LS rims
When the chrome wheels on my 2000 LS400 Platinum were replaced in 2003 under warranty, the California company that supplied them when the car was new had replacements in stock. The Lexus dealer got the replacements, mounted them on my car and then sent the old ones back to the California company. After all these years, I would be surprised if a company would keep LS400 Platinum chrome wheels in stock. If you really want chrome wheels, you might have to put your car on blocks while the wheels are being chromed unless you have an extra set of wheels.
I thought the Platinum chrome wheels looked especially nice - much nicer than chrome versions of the standard 98-00 LS400 wheels. Here's a photo of my 2000 shortly before I sold it in 2014. The replacement chrome wheels were still like new after 11 years but they were never used in Winter. .
just to add one more thing — if you go the sand blast/ powder coat route you can expect your 20+ year old wheels to come out looking brand new, quite literally. Here are my previously chrome wheels that I had powder coated gray (black is way too common)
peacebay how do you like the cinturatos? i went with the michelin premier a/s for my current set (wanted the MXV4 but no longer made in the stock 16" size) and they're good but as far as i can tell no better (actually a bit noisier) than the turanza serenity plus that i last had on my 18" LS 430 wheels
i was pretty set on getting the turanzas again after the michelins are done but i hear good things about the cinturato, my only worry is that the LS won't like that they're italian and get some WW2 ptsd... that's my reason for not getting continentals lol, also the OEM tire was the turanza er33 so i figure another set of turanzas will do it good
Good news is it seems the LS forgives and forgets so no PTSD worries.
But I can’t say enough good things about the Pirellis. They ride quietly and ultra smooth and balanced out perfectly (I’m reallyyyyyy a stickler about that). They hit expansion joints with a real satisfying thud too, but never get loud enough where you even notice the tires when you’re driving.
I have a pair of MXM4s on my LS400 with the 17 inch wheels and I love those too. But with how much cheaper the Pirellis are for absolutely no sacrifice I’d buy them again over the Michelins.
ok update i just did a little internet-ing, and i thought the cinturato p7 still came in the V speed rating for 225/60-16 but apparently not... since that was my only reason for even considering them over the turanza serenity plus which i loved
i don't exceed 131 mph too often (in the LS) but i'd like to know i'm rated up to the full 150 for when i do my top speed run lol... even though that'll just be a one time thing, and no way am i getting the goodyear eagle rs-a which is somehow the only V rated tire in that size
the only area where the serenity plus gets less than stellar reviews are for winter/snow performance, but i have blizzaks on my original set of rims that the grandparents got all scuffed up and those go on in the winter anyway so i'm not worried about that
