My 1990 ls400 won’t shift out of park without override

I’ve been okay using the override but recently it’s gotten very sticky and requires a lot of finnicking and pushing it deeper than what should be needed to get it out of park, I’ve been told it’s a relay in the shifter assembly that’s causing it not to shift without the override by the person I bought it from does anyone have a diagram or maybe some knowledge that could help me find the relay?
