1998-2000 LS400 Timing Belt VVTI Question
So I took a peek at my timing belt and it looks old and starting to have little cracks in it not terrible but I should replace it. I found this guide on how to do it with photos everything looks ok but the timing belt mark lineup. I watched a youtube video where the guy states the belt should be lined up with the T not the dot? This fellow states it needs to be 50 degrees off. Anyone have thoughts on this? I know that with the VVTI its different than if you had a non VVTI where you can just line up the dots.

Basically, once you have all the markings lined up ATDC it's not recommended to remove the belt in this position as the L cam could easily move out of place. Turning 50 degrees, T marks up top and there's also markings down at the crank to help locate the position, puts the cams in a spot where the belt can be safely removed.

Awesome thanks for sharing the official procedure for doing this service! Very informative the VVTI thing kinda freaks me out I am good with the the non VVTI. So I just need to take a stick to make sure I have the 50 degrees and the T is acceptable as well good to know. Thank you again!
