Default Genuine Toyota/Lexus LS400 Power Steering Pump

I have a 97 Lexus LS400 & it's in great shape. Since the car is old, I couldn't justified spending $600+ on a genuine pump so I've been using aftermarket pumps w/ lifetime warranty over the past 10 years but they don't last very long (I'm on my 3rd one). My current one is over 2 years old. It doesn't leak yet but has started making noise when turning in the parking lot after the car has been driven for an hour or so so I know it's just a matter of time before I'll be needing another pump. The price for a genuine pump has gone down to about $475 now so I'm thinking about going that route instead of keep changing the pump once every few years. I may go ahead & replace it before it leaks & takes out the alternator too. For those of you that have replaced w/ the genuine pump, were you able to find a better deal than $475? If so, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I got lucky I guess I nabbed a used brand new (1000 miles) one from a buddy who was totaled...sadly I was too late on the other things I needed. Sad too he paid like $500 for his a month before.

My question was about the bleach bottle. Is your alternator staying cleaner than without it?

I don't have a source for a great price but I can attest you are def doing the right thing. I beat my head against the wall with my very first LS (91) and using the genuine Lexus part solved the problem. When the same problem developed on my 99 I didn't think twice about spending the money again. The two jobs were almost 10 years apart and both times there were NO issues whatsoever after...

I am wondering the same. Just a regular old bleach bottle?

With the discount code, it came out to more than $475. Thanks anyway.

I did the same thing by using the windshield washer bottle on my last replacement but was concerned about the thermal dissipation so decided not to use it.

Has the bleached bottle melted or distorted from the heat?
