Ls400 vs celsior windscreen (windshield)
Notice the Toyota Celsior is more fully optioned with upgrades over American badged LS400...
Am interested to learn if anyone knows what differences, if any, exist between the 1995- 2000 Celsior and LS400 windshields...
Online information suggests Celsior windshield glass is thicker...
As I make everything else quieter, am really noticing windshield and window glass noise.
Previous owner installed aftermarke widshield, so that is a contributing factor.

When I had to get my windshield replaced, the shop I used tried to find a Lexus OEM windshield. It was something like $900 for just the glass. An aftermarket windshield was $270, out the door installed. I went with the latter because I wasn't prepared to spend more than $1k.
FWIW, I didn't notice a difference in sound at all.
When I did some digging I do remember Lexus using thicker than normal glass to achieve more sound deadening. Whether aftermarket glass for the car replicated this or not, I don't know.
I can't answer your question regarding the Celsior, but this is my 2c on the topic.

At the time ours was replaced through Safelite they had multiple options available. All DOT approved though there was thick glass available. The PPG I chose was stated to be the equal to the factory glass. One key attribute was the clarity. The one they took off was from a China supplier and the optical properties were pretty poor. Can be some juggling to get a noise resistant glass yet also to balance the optical properties.

Wind shields are not optioned. All Celsiors Gen 2.5 (July 97 and after) have thicker glasses as follows.

Windshield glass thickness
Yamae's information indicates Toyota used thicker (5.3 mm) windshield glass starting in 1998 model year.
Several aftermarket windshield manufacturers list the same P.N. for 1995-2000 LS400 windshield.
This suggests the aftermarket is offering thinner glass.
In case anyone can interpret windshield glass part numbers, attached is label from mine.
Can anyone provide glass thickness on this windshield?

Just for your information. This is what printed on my 98 Celsior's front wind shield.

I think that all safety car glass in the US has to be laminated - sandwiched between two layers of plastic (?) so that in the case of an accident, it does NOT spill. It only cracks and stays together, protected by lamination. (Same in Canada, I believe)
In Europe I think they want the glass to spill everywhere, like little marbles, with no large chunks left over. I guess, they believe there is less chance of an injury that way and it may be easier to recover victims from the car.
So different standards, different glass. Could be illegal to put a glass intended for, say, EU, in a US car.

1995 - 1997 vs 1998 - 2000 glass thickness
First, am NOT recommending purchasing auto glass from Safelite...
One nearby so decided to visit and inquire as to why only one P.N., when there are two glass thicknesses....and which thickness would they be providing for my 1999 LS400...
Not an unreasonable inquiry.
After about 10 minutes the guy at the desk looked up and figured out I was there as a prospective customer.
After explaining to stooge #1 that I was seeking clarification on which glass thickness they were offering, he deferred to his boss.
Stooge #2 asked for all of the information again because stooge #1 was apparently incapable of conveying the information.
A real Izzy Moreno type who could not tell me glass thickness of their windshield and, moreover did not offer to find out and get back to me.
A real F U attitude.
So based on forum member comments, it is best to avoid aftermarket glass.
Lexus glass thickness information;
Windshield glass thickness 1998 2000 LS400 is 5.3 mm.
Glass thickness 1995 - 1997 LS400 is 4.7 mm.
