Default Professional gasket scraping tool

Removing carbon, paint, rust, scale or gasket materials from Aluminum surfaces requires extra care to avoid scratching or gouging...

Common work areas requiring removal of gasket materials, rust, and scale on 1UZ-FE include the water pump mounting areas, water inlet housing, water crossover flanges, cylinder head, cylinder block, oil.pan, transmission pan, differential housing, etc.

Using a paint scraper is a sure way to gouge the Aluminum.

The carbide tipped "Super Scraper" was recommended as the way to go.

I purchased a three-scraper set from Goodson's which contains 5/8", 1-1/4" and 2" thick blades to prep my cylinder heads and engine block.

They work fantastic at removing anything that does not belong there.(Engine block is in vehicle so used a vacuum cleaner while scraping block to prevent crud from falling into cylinder bores, coolant and oil passages)

Also used scrapers on the transmission pan and housing to remove FIPG...works incredibly well.

Not inexpensive, but what is the cost of a gouged cylinder head or engine block.

Close-up of 1-1/4" Super Scraper.. employs a double-edged blade.

Razor blades just don't cut it as compared to these tools.
