Default Antenna replacement. Need tips.

Hello,
A while after I bought my ls, the antenna broke, the plastic cable snapped, I found a replacement one, wich was not an oem one, had my mechanic install it, only for it to break when I got home, after calling the seller and getting a new one it broke after about a month (or a bit less) of use. In every case the plastic cable snapped.

I want to get an oem one now, hopefully one that will work for longer. I know many ls users don't bother replacing them as it's a common issue, but I really like the way it looks.

The one that shows up for the US spec is 86337-50141.

May have to get into the antenna motor assembly to check-clean-lubricate it. Should not be breaking the cable if it is the correct part.

Yes, recognized you are in Europe. None of those listed are for your year, I'd not take the risk. The 86337-50141 is listed for 95-97 but as far as Euro or JDM spec, I don't know.

In case it helps, here's my experience with my '91's antenna:

The original plastic cable snapped after about 25 years, no complaints there.

I bought a replacement off eBay. Fit was OK, but it seemed to fail the same way almost immediately. After taking it apart, I saw that what happened is that the plastic cable is crimped inside a metal clamp on the antenna. The design is not great, and the cable simply pulled out of the clamp when it was first used for real. Basically, it just took a little figuring out and tuning, and I re-clamped it more carefully, and it has worked fine ever since. No chance of doing that with the original cable - in that case, the plastic is simply old, brittle, and will crack again if you tried to make it work. But when doing all that, since I had things apart and figured out how it worked, I re-used the actual original antenna, just not the plastic cable.

BTW on the fit and the different years, etc., I believe it may have to do with the length of the antenna when extended. Being in Europe, you probably work on different frequencies and the antenna may be different due to that. Most cars would not care, but these Lexi adjust the antenna length based on the FM station you're tuned to.
